Recognizing the importance of energy as a determinant of competitiveness, trapca’s 10th Annual Conference that was held in Arusha, Tanzania from 19-20 November 2015 was focused on the theme: ‘Energy as a determinant of competitiveness.’
The conference which attracted various stakeholders from the Energy Industry, Academics and Policy Makers was attended by 111 participants. Pursuant to the conference deliberations, a number of issues were pointed out as requiring attention and these include:
- That it is in the interest of African countries to invest and manage energy projects that arise.
- The need for governments to identify and implement feasible projects to achieve energy sufficiency in their national grids, as that is key for competitiveness of the manufacturing industry.
- Private sector involvement through PPPs in the energy sector is ideally beneficial but needs to be handled with care going by the cases from some African Countries.
Capacity building is key for officials in energy regulatory bodies as well as those in implementing bodies.
